A rich-text-editor or RTE field refers to the text area in widgets where extra formatting tools are provided, in contrast to simple text fields such as the one in your WordPress comments, or the Text widget.

In Layers, we use a 3rd Party editor called Froala. TinyMCE, the editor WordPress uses, currently has many limitations and performance issues with the Customizer that keep it from being 100% compatible. This will change in the future as WordPress perfects their in-page and visual editing tools.

The Froala editor supports the following functionality when working in Layers widgets:

  • bolding
  • italics
  • underline
  • strikethrough
  • links
  • numbered lists
  • bulleted lists
  • Removing of code/formatting
  • Code view

The Code View works similarly to the WordPress editor’s “Text” tab and supports basic HTML tags such as <span> , <div> ,<iframe> ,<img> , <a> , <p> ,<i>  and <blockquote>

Implement rich-text fields by using the rte  key in your widget options array. See input()  for details.
