This is a standard WordPress excerpt. Excerpts will always strip out code, including links, images etc. The following docs get into how to manipulate this in custom functions via a child theme:

Note that in the case of the post widget, it will not allow output of the full content in order to ensure the layout is not broken by super long text, or formatting such as alignment code, images and so on.
