Layers Customizer pane doesn’t show up on iPad Pro

Asked on February 4, 2016 in Troubleshooting.

I just tried to edit a pretty default Layers test-site using my iPad Pro. It didn’t work for me:
– I can access the WordPress customizer (and change settings, etc… there)
– I can access/change CSS/JS in the DevKit-pane

– I CAN’T access the site’s layout: If I click ‘Edit Layout’ and navigate to the page’s layout, and click any widget there, Safari for iOS doesn’t load the page, but the page crashes (same thing happens using Chrome)

Any idea?

Hi there,

There could be a lot of reasons why this doesn’t work well on iPad, but mainly has to do with the Customizer not being designed for mobiles. It has a limited frame size for the preview and requires several scripts and local storage methods which may be blocked or unsupported in your mobile browser. The simplest thing to try is turning the device to give the window a wider frameand using the zoom controls to try scaling the contents so you can see the preview with the widget panel open. If you are getting an error message, please copy/paste it here so we can be more exact

while that sounds reasonable for the iPad mini, the real-estate of the iPad Pro is definitely sufficient (as it’s dimensions are even higher than a regular laptop.

The WordPress customizer shows up fine, btw. It’s just when trying to show the Layers-Extension.

Since this is 100% reproducible (and there is no error thrown in the JS-console), I found some weird crash.logs in WebKit – so it seems to be directly related to WebKit and therefore could very well be a WebKit-bug (or incompatibility). But I’m not a WebKit-expert, so I have to investigate further.
Otoh – you should see this happen on your devices as well, don’t you?

Is there some progress on this?

The LayersWP customizer either crashes my iPad Pro, or doesn’t show up at all…

Did you ever try that on an iPad Pro??
