How to export theme

Asked on September 21, 2016 in How To.

Hi!

I’m new in WP. I just created theme using Layers (using MAMP it is stored on my local computer). I would like to export it and upload it to my hosting provider.

I have used Tools/Export and it exports only XML file. How do I export the whole theme?

Hi there,

Did you create the theme using our Child Theme guide, or is this just a site you have customized using the widgets and customizer options?

Child Themes are explained here:
https://docs.layerswp.com/theming/

To migrate an entire site you setup locally to your live server:

The easiest way to do this is to  use a total backup plugin like WP Backitup. See their documentation forhow to backup your site and restore it on a new server.

You can also backup and restore just the content and layouts of a single Layers site. This is best if your media library is full of extra stuff or you are running multi-site. See Backup Content Widgets and Layouts

You can also do it the super-manual way. Here is WordPress.org’s arduous documentation for how to do that.

The most convenient way to transfer your website’s (mine: https://essaydune.com/essays-for-sale/) files to your new web hosting account is via FTP. You should connect to your hosting account and download the files locally to your computer. Then you have to upload them to your new hosting account’s main folder (usually public_html, www or httpdocs).
