How does Layers compare with MP Stacks?
Possible Answers to Your Question:
I do not have extensive experience with this plugin beyond giving it a go today, so here is my initial assessment:
MP Stacks is a page layout plugin that is almost exactly like Visual Composer. It introduces proprietary interfaces and code libraries that start from the page editor.
Layers is a theme framework centered around layout customization in the native WP customizer. Where MP Stacks uses code blocks that are injected into the page content, Layers uses widgets that build the page structure outside of the content zone.
MP Stacks creation process happens in proprietary interface panels that could be quite confusing to newcomers. Layers happens in the Customizer with live preview, using a UX process that is built around intuitive design controls with as little text instruction as possible.
Layers puts new users into a setup wizard to help them learn how to use the product quickly. MP Stackss has no such onboarding and I don’t know if I would have figured out how to add stacks without reading documentation if I were not a veteran WordPress user.
This is a biased review since I am part of the Layers team, but I hope it is clear that since both products are free, there is no competition and I am being as honest as possible.
The good news is that you can use MP Stacks on a Layers install if you want. I personally have found other page editors to have a better user experience though (SiteOrigins Pagebuilder, Aesop Story Engine or ShortCodes ultimate, for example)
