Feature Requet: Add media to content widget excerpt

Asked on January 18, 2016 in Feature Requests.

Hi there,
The more I use layers, the more I have to try and find a workaround for this one feature that I belive is missing:

It would be great to be able to add media to column excerpts in the content widget. using the wordpress “add Media” function. For example, if I want to add an image part way through my text, or insert an audio track, or a pdf – currently there s no way to do these things without knowing how to code.

Do you think this would be possible??

Hi There,
Just chasing up this question. In an attempt to investigate how this would be done, I’ve located the files editor.min.js (which I’ve temporarily un-minified) and also admin.js – these seem to be the files that would control the functions that are enabled and disabled within the editor. I can see that there are indeed upload files/movies/images functions built into the editor (which I believe is the Froala editor), however, I can’t make out how I would go about enabling these functions.

Do you have any ideas on how I would achieve this?

OK, after a bit more research, I’ve figured out how this would be possible. However, I also noticed that layers uses an older version of Froala (v1), so before I go ahead and create a plugin that extends the functionality of this – can you tell me if there are any plans to migrate the text editor to v2 in the next release of layers?

We are updating Froala in 1.5.  I strongly recommend testing image upload features through froala with the customizer while creating several content-heavy pages on a live server, and with Pro active if possible. It is really best to add additional media upload buttons to the main toolbarthat mimic the featured media option, then give that media a structured place to live in the content or column or you will run into problems (there is a reason we restrict the froala options to the ones available 😉 )
