Copyright year automatic

Asked on September 16, 2016 in General Questions.

Have looked and not found –

Is there a shortcode or something I can use to add the  simple script to update the copyright year automatically?

&copy; 2008<?php echo date(“Y”) ?>

Not wanting to use plugins to do this, as it’s just one simple line of code.

    Hi wonderwoman,

I know it’s a plugin, but I thought I’d share it in the meantime anyway since it looks like the Layers Dev Team seem as though they may be working on something. The WPSOS Automatic Copyright Year short code seems to work pretty well.

    Hi Jack

    Thank you for the suggestion.

For some reason that plugin isn’t playing well.  Have tried to put it in the copyright text footer area with no success (just get the html displaying).  Also tried it in the pages using both the html edit side of things and the standard wysiwyg mode.  No luck, not sure why.

Hmm, have you tried adding the below code?  It doesn’t seem to like it if it isn’t in a span sometimes.

     <span>[wpsos_year]</span>

EDIT: Hmm, I just tested it and can confirm it doesn’t work in the Layers footer. :-/

    Hi WW,

It has been brought up before but we haven’t found the best solution yet for it.

Thanks for the reminder though we’ll see what we can do.
