Convert existing pages to Layers?

Asked on July 13, 2016 in How To.

Maybe it’s so obvious I’m not seeing it, but is there a way turn an existing page (with its content intact, of course) into a Layers page? Or do I have to make a new page and copy/paste the content? That would give temporary problems with slugs…

    Hi there,

Layers pages use a widget structure, so there is no way to automagically take the design or content of an existing static page and turn it into Layers unfortunately. What I recommend is copying your content/text into a temporary place like a text editor or a draft page, then you can simply select the Layers page template in the existing page, Update and you can start using it as a Layers page. Copy the text into the Content widget or whichever layout sections are appropriate in your new design. The original content will always be in a revision if you need to go back, or if you deactivate Layers, it converts the layout into a text-only layout automatically.

Thanks! The Layers Page Template was the thing I overlooked ^_^. Maybe in a future release you can make it so that if someone converts a page to a Layers page, all existing content gets put in a single Content widget? But at least I don’t have to make new pages, that’s the most important thing.

    Hi there,
Unfortunately that is not technically possible as there are too many variables to predict.
